Visa & travel information

On this page you'll find a summary of key information about what you'll need for travelling to Aotearoa New Zealand. For complete details and the most up to date information regarding visitor visas and other entry requirements, please visit the NZ Immigration website.

What you need to visit New Zealand

  • A passport
Everyone needs a valid passport to visit New Zealand. Learn more about passport requirements here.

  • A New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) or a visitor visa
Most people travelling to New Zealand will need to apply for either a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) or a visitor visa prior to arrival. People with passports from visa waiver countries only need an NZeTA. Use this form on the NZ Immigration webpage to determine if you need a NZeTA or a visitor visa.

  • A New Zealand Traveller Declaration
Everyone must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. There is no cost to complete this form. It can be completed online in advance (24 hours before your journey begins) or a paper form is available when you arrive (handed out on your flight or available in the airport, prior to proceeding through Immigration). Visit this website to complete your declaration online in advance

entry requirements

If you are not a New Zealand citizen, you will need to apply for either a New Zealand Travel Authority (NZeTA) or a visitor visa.

New Zealand Travel Authority (NZeTA)

You are required to apply for a New Zealand Travel Authority (NZeTA) if you are:

  • a citizen of a visa waiver country or territory, or,
  • an Australian permanent resident, or,
  • a citizen of China or a Pacific Islands Forum country travelling from Australia with an eligible Australian visa.

NZeTAs typically take about 72 hours to process and cost $17 NZD. You can apply for an NZeTA online here

You can request an invitation letter as part of the APAN62 Registration process. Or, if you need an Invitation Letter provided to you prior to registering to attend APAN62, contact Mandy - mandy@conference.nz.

Visitor visa

You are required to apply for a visitor visa if you are travelling on a passport from a country this is NOT listed here.

Visitor visas can take between 2-8 weeks to process, so we recommend applying as soon as possible to ensure your visa is processed in time for your travel dates. Visitor visa and NZeTA wait times are updated weekly on the NZ Immigration website.
